GATHERING: Questions for NEXT Sunday (Feb 1)
Text: I Corinthians 1:26-2:5
Context: Paul shows us the "foolishness" of God's wisdom and power at work in us the foolish and weak to remind all the powerful that they need God...
Relationship: Did your kids ever think your wisdom was foolish? (or maybe you ARE the kid?) How did you respond? How does God respond when do the same to Him?
Text: Read I Corinthians 1:26-2:5. Don't rush. What stands out?
V27: What does Paul mean, "God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise"?
V31: Paul is quoting the OT - go to the original quote and read Jeremiah 9:23-24. According to the verses in Jeremiah, why do you think kindness, justice and righteousness are so elusive on earth? Where does Paul find their source (V30)?
V1-5: Paul credits God as the power in his life. Has God ever shown HimSelf strong in your weakness? Tell that story...
V4: Is there a part of your life you are trying to control with your wisdom and strength? Confess that, and ask the group to pray for you for humility and faith in God.
Growth: What is a key application you take from this passage / message?
